What Supplements Can—and Cannot—Do
Dietary supplements add nutrients or other ingredients to the diet and are regulated differently from medicines.

Support is not treatment
Structure/function language such as “supports bone health” describes normal body support. It should not be interpreted as preventing osteoporosis, treating arthritis or correcting a hormone disorder.
FDA does not pre-approve effectiveness
Manufacturers are responsible for safety and truthful, non-misleading claims. Supplements are not FDA-approved for effectiveness before marketing in the way medicines are.
Context shapes every experience
Diet, medications, health conditions, serving amount, consistency and individual biology all matter. Natural does not automatically mean safe.
Use evidence carefully
Ask what ingredient was studied, at what amount, in which population, for how long and with what measured outcome. Avoid guarantees and universal timelines.
