Japanese Camellia Seed Oil

Botanical Oil & Emollient

Japanese Camellia Seed Oil

Moisturizing, soothing, firming

Key Benefits

  • Silky emollient softness
  • Helps reduce moisture loss
  • Supports a smooth skin feel
  • Provides elegant spreadability

How It Works

Camellia seed oil forms a flexible emollient film and fills spaces between dry corneocytes, reducing surface friction and helping retain water. This produces immediate softness without functioning as a humectant.

Its high oleic-acid content supports spreadability, while minor tocopherols and unsaponifiable compounds can contribute conditioning and oxidative stability. Formula design determines weight, absorption and suitability.

Ingredient Details

INCI Name: Camellia Japonica Seed Oil

Ingredient Type: Botanical Seed Oil

Best For

Normal to dry skin · Rough or tight-feeling skin · Silky facial oils and creams

What It Is

It is a non-volatile botanical oil obtained from Camellia japonica seeds. It should not be confused with tea tree oil, tea seed oil from other Camellia species, or a volatile camellia essential oil.

Cosmetic camellia seed oil is primarily a triglyceride oil and is often refined for consistency, stability and a lighter sensory profile.

What It Does

It coats and smooths the outer skin surface, helping it feel soft, flexible and less rough. The oil’s oleic-rich profile provides excellent spread and a silky finish in facial oils, creams and hair-care formulas.

A published study reported reduced transepidermal water loss and examined type I procollagen-related effects, but broad anti-aging claims should still be grounded in the finished product rather than the raw oil alone.
