Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid

Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid

Deep-hydrating, smoothing, revitalizing

Key Benefits

  • Supports multi-level surface hydration
  • Smooths rough, dehydrated texture
  • Temporarily softens fine lines
  • Leaves skin feeling supple

How It Works

Hydrolysis cleaves the long hyaluronic acid chain into shorter fragments. These fragments remain strongly hydrophilic, helping bind water and form a lighter, less viscous hydrating layer than some higher-molecular-weight grades.

Smaller molecular weight can change penetration into superficial layers, but not all hydrolyzed materials have the same size. Benefits should be linked to measured product performance rather than assuming that every hydrolyzed grade reaches deeply into skin.

Ingredient Details

INCI Name: Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid

Ingredient Type: ["Hydrolyzed glycosaminoglycan","Humectant","Film former"]

Best For

All skin types · Dehydrated skin · Dry skin · Combination skin

What It Is

A lower-molecular-size form of hyaluronic acid created by controlled hydrolysis of the original polysaccharide chain.

What It Does

Binds water and supports a lighter hydrating film, helping dehydrated skin look smoother, softer, and temporarily more plump.

Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid FAQs

Common questions about this ingredient in skincare.

What is Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid?
It is hyaluronic acid whose long polymer chains have been broken into smaller fragments for use in cosmetic formulas.
How is it different from regular Hyaluronic Acid?
It generally has a lower average molecular size and lower viscosity, which can change film feel, dispersion, and interaction with superficial skin layers.
Does it penetrate more deeply?
Smaller HA fragments may penetrate more readily than very large molecules, but actual depth depends on molecular-weight distribution and the finished formula.
Is it better than Sodium Hyaluronate?
Not universally. Each form has different formulation advantages, and many products combine multiple forms for complementary surface hydration and feel.
Can I use it every day?
Yes. It is commonly suitable for daily morning and evening use, followed by moisturizer and daytime sunscreen as appropriate.
Is it suitable for sensitive skin?
It is usually well tolerated, but the full ingredient list determines sensitivity. Patch-test if you have highly reactive skin.
