Botanical Resins

Copaifera Officinalis Resin

A soothing botanical resin that helps calm visible redness, condition and comfort the skin, provide antioxidant support, and promote a clearer, smoother, healthier-looking complexion.

Key Benefits

  • Provides botanical skin conditioning
  • Supports a calm-looking complexion
  • Offers antioxidant support
  • Helps comfort visibly stressed skin
  • Complements formulas for blemish-prone skin

How It Works

Copaiba oleoresin contains volatile sesquiterpenes and nonvolatile diterpene resin acids. Laboratory studies have reported activity against selected microorganisms and effects relevant to inflammatory signaling, but composition and potency differ among Copaifera species and preparations.

Within a cosmetic formula, these lipophilic compounds contribute conditioning and supportive antioxidant or soothing potential. Clinical or antimicrobial treatment claims require evidence for the exact material and finished product.

What It Is

An aromatic oleoresin collected from Copaifera officinalis. It combines volatile sesquiterpenes with nonvolatile resin acids and is distinct from the essential oil obtained by distilling the oleoresin.

What It Does

Conditions the skin and supplies aromatic botanical constituents with experimental antioxidant, soothing, and antimicrobial potential. In cosmetics, it supports a calmer, smoother, healthy-looking complexion without implying medical treatment.

Copaifera Officinalis Resin FAQs

Common questions about this ingredient in skincare.

What is copaiba resin?
It is an oleoresin tapped from Copaifera trees. It naturally contains both a volatile essential-oil fraction and a heavier resin fraction.
Is copaiba resin the same as copaiba essential oil?
No. Essential oil is the distilled volatile fraction, while oleoresin contains both volatile and nonvolatile constituents. Research on one form cannot automatically be applied to the other.
Does it treat acne?
No cosmetic ingredient profile should make that claim. Some topical and laboratory studies are encouraging, but results depend on the exact species, extract, concentration, and formula.
Can it heal scars or wounds?
A combination gel containing copaiba has been studied, but that does not prove copaiba resin alone heals wounds or removes scars. Cosmetics should be positioned for appearance and conditioning only.
Is it suitable for sensitive skin?
Botanical resins can cause irritation or allergy in some users. Patch test and follow the directions of the finished product.
What does the cited research show?
An in vitro study found Copaifera officinalis oil inhibited Staphylococcus aureus under laboratory conditions. This does not establish clinical infection treatment or identical results from a cosmetic resin formula.
