Botanical Oil

Psidium Guajava (Guava) Seed Oil

A nutrient- and antioxidant-rich botanical oil that helps nourish and moisturize, support the skin barrier, improve softness and elasticity, and promote a smoother, more radiant-looking complexion.

Key Benefits

  • Softens and nourishes skin
  • Supports the moisture barrier
  • Provides antioxidant support
  • Improves visible suppleness
  • Helps smooth rough texture

How It Works

Guava seed oil coats the skin surface with triglycerides dominated by linoleic acid. These lipids lubricate the stratum corneum and help reduce the rough feel associated with dryness.

Tocopherols, phytosterols, and phenolic compounds can provide complementary antioxidant activity, although composition varies with cultivar and extraction method.

In vitro research has reported increased migration of cultured keratinocytes at a tested concentration, but this does not prove wound healing in people. Finished-product claims should focus on conditioning and barrier support.

Psidium Guajava (Guava) Seed Oil FAQs

Common questions about this ingredient in skincare.

What is guava seed oil?
It is a botanical oil extracted from Psidium guajava seeds, often recovered as a value-added by-product of fruit processing.
What is its main fatty acid?
Published studies generally identify linoleic acid as the predominant fatty acid, though exact percentages vary by source and method.
Does it contain vitamin C?
Guava fruit is known for vitamin C, but the seed oil should not be treated as a vitamin C serum. Its key components are lipids and oil-soluble minor compounds.
Can it help dry skin?
Yes. Its emollient triglycerides help soften roughness and support moisture retention in a properly formulated product.
Is it suitable for oily skin?
Its linoleic-rich profile may feel relatively light, but suitability depends on the full formula and individual tendency toward congestion.
Does it heal wounds?
No clinical wound-healing claim is appropriate. Laboratory cell-migration findings are preliminary and do not establish treatment effects in humans.
